Face masks do's and don'ts

Face masks come in a variety of colors, styles and materials and are used on the faces of people around us. Wearing a face mask takes some getting used to. To get the most benefit, avoid common mistakes and know when and how to use them. We try to give as much advice as possible about the use of face masks. We will always renew our masks to provide the best possible protection.
Of course we do not lose sight of fashion.

Be aware our face masks are not sufficient to protect against COVID-19 Coronavirus.

When do you wear a face mask?

We recommend using a face mask in the following situations:
  • If you are taking care of a sick person and you only are healthy
  • Wear a mask if you are coughing or sneezing
  • If you participate in heavy traffic when you get on the scooter or bicycle
  • When the flu is prevalent
  • If you suffer from hay fever and the grasses, pollen and trees bloom
  • When you are in areas or places where you cannot keep 1,5 meters apart
  • In dusty environments
  • If you generally travel by public transport like planes, subways and buses and you know you are being packed in rows or small spaces
  • When required
  • When you like to wear it as a fashion item

How to wear and use a face mask?

Masks are effective only when used in combination with frequent hand-cleaning with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
Masks offer limited protection, and work better when combined with social distancing. To get the most benefit, you need to avoid common mistakes. One of the biggest mistakes people make is that they fidget with their masks, and pull them under their noses or completely off their faces to rest under their chins.

If you wear a mask, then you must know how to use it.
  • Before putting on a mask, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water
  • Ensure you are using a clean mask
  • Place a filter in the filter pocket of the face mask. (If your mask has a filter option)
  • Use the ties (elastics) or loops to put your mask on and pull it off
  • Cover your mouth, nose and chin with the mask and make sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask
  • Avoid touching the mask while using it; if you do, clean your hands with alcohol based hand rub or soap and water
  • Keep in mind social distancing
  • Replace the mask with a new one as soon as it is damp and do not re-use single-use masks.
  • To remove the mask: remove it from behind (do not touch the front of mask); discard immediately; clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water
  • Re-use your Batik Be Safe, place it directly in your washing machine and use washing instructions, always be aware it will not contaminate other surfaces

Do's and don’ts of wearing a mask.

DON’T: Wear the mask below your nose.

DON’T: Leave your chin exposed.

DON’T: Wear your mask loosely with gaps on the sides.

DON’T: Wear your mask so it covers just the tip of your nose.

DON’T: Push your mask under your chin to rest on your neck.

DO: Wear your mask so it comes all the way up, close to the bridge of your nose, and all the way down under your chin.
Do your best to tighten the loops or ties so it’s snug around your face, without gaps.

And once you’ve figured out the correct position for wearing your mask, follow these tips to stay safe:

  • Put the mask on and remove it while inside your home. Elevators and stairwells can be high-contamination areas.
  • Wash and dry your cloth mask daily and keep it in a clean, dry place.
  • Don’t have a false sense of security.
